The skin is a three-dimensional structure and there are several terms that can be used to describe the surface texture or shape of lesions.

| Verrucous | A rough and irregular or bumpy surface |
| Ulbilicated | Has central depression |
| Filiform | Thread-like |
| Pedunculated | On a narrow stalk |
