Overview

Nepal is a multilingual and welcoming country. A few key Nepali words will help you connect with people from your very first day. In this chapter, you will learn high-frequency greetings, polite expressions, and simple “survival” phrases used in daily life and in the classroom. For now, learn these as complete phrases and focus on clear pronunciation and confident use. We will explore the grammar behind these expressions in later chapters.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • use common Nepali greetings appropriately in everyday and classroom settings

  • choose polite expressions for basic interactions (please, thank you, excuse me/sorry, welcome)

  • respond to others with short, natural phrases (yes, no, okay, I don’t know)
