There are 4 key types of flow sheet and they are shown below in increasing complexity:

  1. Input-Out Diagrams
  2. Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs)
  3. Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  4. Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
