Chapter 4 – Ownership and Belongings

Unit 3 — Conversations

Model Dialogues

This model dialogue introduces two closely related classroom functions: identifying everyday items and asking who they belong to. Across the conversations, learners repeatedly hear and use key patterns—near/far reference (yo/tyo/yī/tī), singular vs. plural linking forms (ho/hun), and polite possessives (mero, tapāī̃ko/tapāī̃kā, uhā̃ko/uhā̃kā). Set around a shared desk or study table, the dialogues mirror natural classroom talk and provide a clear, respectful template learners can reuse in real interactions.

Ownership

Pema and Linda are getting ready for class in a shared study space. A mobile, a bag, pens, and a notebook are on the table.
