Chapter 9 – Giving Commands and Reporting Actions

Overview

In this chapter, you will learn how to give polite commands using imperative forms and how to report completed actions in the past. The dialogues model real classroom interactions where instructions are given, actions are performed, and reports are made using both simple past and honorific past forms. By practicing these patterns, you will develop skills for everyday communication in formal and instructional settings.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • Use imperative forms to give polite commands (e.g., कृपया उठ्नुहोस् “Please stand up”).
  • Ask and answer questions about completed actions (e.g., तपाईंले के गर्नुभयो? “What did you do?”).
  • Report someone else’s actions using honorific past forms (e.g., उहाँले किताब पढ्नुभयो “He/She read the book”).
  • Use negative past forms to indicate actions that did not happen (e.g., मैले झ्याल खोलिनँ “I did not open the window”).
