Chapter 3 – Identifying Objects
Overview
In this chapter, you will learn how to point to objects and identify them in polite Nepali. You will practice using demonstratives (“this,” “that,” “these,” “those”) and the linking “be” forms for singular and plural, including negative forms (“is not,” “are not”). By the end of the chapter, you will be able to ask and answer common classroom questions such as “What is this?” and “What are these?”
Learning Objectives
By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:
- use demonstratives यो/त्यो/यी/ती (yo/tyo/yī/tī) to refer to singular and plural objects in context
- ask and answer object-identification questions such as यो के हो? (yo ke ho?) and यी के हुन्? (yī ke hun?)
- form affirmative and negative identification sentences using हो/हुन् (ho/hun) and होइन/होइनन् (hoina/hoinan)
- use –हरू (–harū) to make plurality explicit, and keep singular/plural forms consistent in questions and answers
- produce short, clear exchanges that keep the linking verb at the end (S–O–V / verb-final pattern)
